The appsmarathon.eu event started early with a well relayed press release (TV crew, radio, web and internetsites) thanks to Agoria, one of the partners of the event.
At 14H in the Appsdiscover stream, 5 roundtables with topics “Smarter with apps”, “Bring your own device and business impact”, "Six primary challenges companies face when they decide to mobilize processes or workers via applications", "Windows 8 apps, why should you care?", " Cloud computing and mobile" started.
Main question: how to start an app project? What are the pittfalls? What are the needed steps to success? The roundtable interactions allowed good discussion and interaction.
At 16H the Appsclinic stream with this time 6 roundtables started with following topics "Starting with Android", "Native/Hybrid or Web?", "Starting with Windows8", "Starting wit iOS", "Making a living with mobile development". 35 students from the brand new formation Mobile Applications from XIOS Hogeschool were present and very interested. Main question answered: what are the basics to start mobile development on different platforms?
The evening session really started in full swing with presentation of the Mobile App Developer Survey by Tanguy De Lestré. For the first time a keynote was presented in the program and this was Beverly Jackson from the Grammy Awards. 17 Belgian app presentations followed. There were several premiere announcements, like the Moviecollector app that just got on sale in the app store.
At around 22H30 the votings began.
With over 45% of the 900 SMS votes received, Filip Maertens from Argus Labs' Jini project was a clear winner (logfile of code APP and APPS together) of the public prize. This was followed by Anne-Laure de Harlez with HowTo in second place, Kevin Cador's Pinchproject with The BeatBlaster on the third place, Pieterjan Bouten from In the Pocket with Woestijnvis mobile apps in forth position and on fifth place the Order.app from Duo nv's Nico De Muynck.
The jury (Danny Devriend - Universal Music, Loris Beerten - Samsung, Tanguy De Lestré - Agoria/Mobilemonday) also voted unanimously for the Jini project. Argus Labs is a mobile sensing and machine learning start-up that is building Jini, the smart and mobile personal advisor that intelligently spots opportunities for consumers, while offering a mobile-centric customer acquisition, loyalty and advertising platform for merchants.
